 Job Description:

The mission of The Advocates is to each people of all ages how to build and maintain healthy relationships. We accomplish this through education, shelter and support services. We envision a compassionate community, free from emotional and physical abuse.  The Attic’s primary purpose is to support the mission of The Advocates via generation of revenue, community outreach and positive community engagement. 

 

The Store Manager is responsible for the overall management of a retail second hand store that benefits The Advocates. The Manager maintains policies and procedures required to manage the operations of the store in order to meet or exceed sales and gross margin goals. The Manager is responsible for store operations and activities including recruiting and supervising store floor staff and volunteers, and receiving, sorting, storing, organizing, pricing and merchandising of donations. The Manager is also responsible maintaining a system for disposal or donation of unwanted items, and networking in the community to secure quality donations to maintain quality inventory, and for pick-up of donations.  Manager is responsible for leading the staff team and cultivating a culture of exceptional donor and customer service.

Qualifications:

Previous professional retail management and supervisory experience.

Commitment to prioritizing customer and donor service.

 A people person with excellent communication skills and desire to build a strong staff team and collaborative relationships across all Advocates’ staff teams.

 Microsoft/Google office proficient. Results oriented and data driven.

 Ability to move heavy and bulky items.

 Valid driver’s license.

Criminal Background check required.

Bilingual (Spanish-English) people encouraged to apply.

 

Duties:

  • Provide overall management of The Advocates Attic retail store, including sales management, donations received, staffing/scheduling, and supervision of retail operations and facilities.

  •  Maintain policies and procedures for operations. Maintain inventory control systems to assure accurate accounting of inventory. Maintain loss prevention system.

  •  Develop pricing system for inventory to maximize revenue.  Establish sales goals and develop tracking mechanisms to measure financial accomplishments. Manage overall expenses of the store.

  •  Oversee cashiering, cash handling and daily cash reconciliations, deposits, credit card activity, and compliance with cash handling and cashiering policies and procedures. Provide Director of Development and CEO with monthly store performance and activity report. 

  • Responsible for overall store appearance, product rotation, merchandising, cleanliness, security, and positive guest service interactions.

 

  • Train staff and volunteers on sales expectations, The Advocates’ Attic selling system, customer and donor service standards, and operational policies.

  • Supervise all retail staff and store volunteers. Staff supervision includes ongoing monitoring and periodic evaluations of performance. Review staff performances and provide training for all employees. Create and maintain a supportive staff team environment.

  •  Develop and implement marketing and sales promotions as well as promotions to encourage donations.

  •  Interact, steward and cultivate donors who come into the Attic with donations.

  •  Recruit, hire, and train store employees and volunteers. Manage staff conflicts in accordance to the personnel policies of The Advocates.

  •  Direct and assist donations volunteers with donation room priorities and disposal of dated inventory daily.

  •  Create daily sales goals and priority work list for staff and/or volunteers.

  •  Create a weekly priority list for inventory needed on sales floor.

  •  Train staff and volunteers on donation operations as it relates to the receiving, sorting, pricing, inventory rotation/disposal and quality control, of all incoming items.

  •  Set positive example for all staff members and volunteers.

  •  Set up and maintain onsite office. Communicate daily schedule, priorities and plans with team.

  • Encourage a collaborative staff team environment within the Attic and across The Advocates’ staff teams. Participate with Attic staff team in all staff team trainings, team development and continued education as required.  Attend all staff team meetings.

  •  Maintain an organized and clean Attic back lot and develop a plan to effectively utilize back lot for inventory storage of weather resistant items.

  •  Set up and follow a system of placing items difficult to move and/or of higher value directly on the sales floor, within 48-72 hours of receipt for valuable items.

  •  Complete annual strategic plan initiatives assigned to the Attic.

  •  Coordinate donation pick-up requests and perform pick-ups or delegate as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.
