NO ONE STANDS ALONE

Inspiration from Elephants

When danger threatens one member of the herd, female elephants don’t scatter. Instead, they form a tight, protective circle—shielding them from harm, standing shoulder to shoulder. They stay close and provide a powerful example of how to protect and care for others.

For victims of abuse, the need for the same kind of steadfast protection and community support is critical. Abuse isolates, erodes trust, and leaves survivors facing enormous challenges as they work to rebuild their safety and sense of self.

At The Advocates, we draw inspiration from the elephants’ circle of care. We surround survivors with a network of safety—emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, transitional housing, affordable childcare, long-term resources and advocacy. Private donations complete this circle of care, making it possible for survivors to find healing, and hope.

We invite you to read our Annual Report to see how your dollars create lasting change.

EMPOWERMENT

Rebuilding self-esteem through empowerment is at the heart of healing from trauma.

There is no quick fix—healing takes time, courage, and consistent support. It takes hard work and dedication.

Last year, 239 survivors participated in Multi-Session Empowerment Programs including:

  • Employment Training

  • Computer Skills

  • Support Groups

  • English Language Classes

  • Healing Yoga

  • Economic Empowerment

  • Skills for Success

“At The Advocates, I found the courage to get back to work as a stylist and create a better life for my children.”

TRADITIONAL HOUSING

Last year, 69 adults and children found stability living in The Advocates’ 18 Transitional Housing Apartments.  Today, these resilient survivors are thriving members of our community.

  • Sliding scale rent averages $450 per month

  • 100% of participants report “improved well-being”

  • Average length of stay is 16 months.

PREVENTION PROGRAMMING

At The Advocates, our work goes beyond responding to abuse—we focus on upstream prevention, bringing local youth into the circle of care and giving them the tools to build safe, respectful relationships. The Every Teen Counts internship teaches teens healthy relationship skills and provides peer-to-peer support. Last year, we introduced Live Respect and Teen Titans—initiatives that engage boys in learning how to stand up against abuse. By fostering respect and accountability at every age, we are building a stronger community and a safer future for generations to come.

96% of students can identify components of a healthy relationship as a result of receiving Healthy Relationship Training 101.

This year, 651 local middle school students took part in The Advocates’ prevention curriculum. Training sessions include boundary setting, communication, and bystander intervention, allowing students to gain skills to build safe and respectful relationships.

THRIVE Kids

When The Advocates opened THRIVE Kids Early Learning Center in June 2024, we made more than a daycare—we made a promise. A promise of quality early learning, equity for every child, and the power of a strong start. Surrounded by a Circle of Care—teachers, parents, advocates, and community—every child receives the foundation they deserve. And it works: 100% of graduating THRIVE Kids were assessed as “kindergarten ready.” The ripple effects of this strong start carry forward into school, career, and life.

  • 41 children attended THRIVE Kids.

  • 91% of families received scholarships.

  • In the past year, we provided 48,360 hours of safe and enriching education.
