Team Lead:                  Director of Prevention and Social Change

Classification:               Exempt, full-time

Salary & Benefits:        $51,000.00- $55,000 starting salary, DOE

 Job Description:

The mission of The Advocates is to teach people of all ages how to build and maintain healthy relationships. We accomplish this through education, shelter and support services.  We envision a compassionate community, free from emotional and physical abuse.

 

The Engaging Boys and Men Coordinator works with the Coordinator of Violence Prevention Education and the Director of Prevention and Social Change to coordinate education, outreach and training activities through The Advocates service region.  The Coordinator develops, implements and manages The Advocates’ Engaging Men & Boys strategies, which educates men and boys of all ages and backgrounds in reducing many forms of violence including domestic, sexual, dating, and bullying. The Coordinator is responsible for delivering The Advocates curricula in schools and communities and supporting outreach efforts throughout The Advocates service region.

Qualifications:

Experience or interest in teaching/educating youth.


Must have a dependable vehicle, a current and valid ID state driver’s license, and proof of insurance.


Must work well with persons of varied sexual orientations, racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently abled.


Comfortable/proficient speaking publicly and facilitating group dialogues. 


Experience creating and reviewing multi-session educational prevention programs focused on topics such as but not limited to healthy relationships, personal safety, and social-emotional well-being.


Demonstrates capacity to generate partnerships with community leaders and ability to forge partnerships with a wide variety of organizations, clubs, and other community groups.


Writing and computer applications: Microsoft Office and Google Suites


Knowledge of social media as a means to build awareness, promote programs, and engage the community


Must pass a criminal background check


Preferred:

Experience developing and evaluating multi-session training curricula including domestic and sexual violence prevention and dating abuse and bullying prevention.

 

Must show a commitment to social change, and prevention non-violence work through previous volunteer work or employment.


Responsibilities:

The Engaging Boys and Men Coordinator is responsible for co-developing, delivering and evaluating education and training sessions in schools and communities throughout The Advocates service region, this includes Lincoln, Custer and Camas Counties.

 

The Engaging Boys and Men Coordinator will actively network throughout The Advocates’ service region to develop and maintain partnerships and referrals in support of program goals, objectives, and activities.

 

Co-create new curricula with promising or best practices

 

The position is supervised by the Director of Prevention and Social Change.

 

Duties:

Receive ongoing training on healthy relationships, engaging men and boys in violence prevention, healthy masculinity, dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, bystander empowerment, and all other Advocates workshops and presentations.

 

Facilitate healthy relationship workshops in schools and communities in The Advocates service region. A key part of this role involves teaching K–12 students about healthy relationships in school settings, supporting young people in building lifelong skills around communication, respect, and emotional well-being.

 

Collaborate on designing and carrying out a plan to actively involve men and boys in the organization’s existing programs and activities

 

Understand advocacy process and trauma informed approaches when meeting with teens and adults, and provide referrals

Promote and provide text line support to teens via Text2Talk

Coordinate development of project related printed educational materials, social media,

newspaper advertisements, and radio public service announcements and publish/initiate media in The Advocates service region.

 

Carry out annual educational and prevention campaigns as needed and required.

Perform evaluation of effectiveness of project activities on a monthly basis through surveys or other identified evaluation methods and track, analyze and report on results.

 

Actively build relationships with youth and community organizations to increase Advocate's visibility and access

Support ETC Intern program as needed.

 

Flexibility in work schedule including duties outside of normal work hours to strengthen community collaboration, and meet community needs

Other duties as assigned by Director of Prevention and Social Change.

 

 Training Requirements:

 

30 hours Victim Advocate training and job orientation

The Wassmuth Center: Human Rights Certification course


Hours:

40 hours per week.


Engaging Boys and Men Coordinator Workload Breakdown:

50% School and Community Education

30% Live Respect, Coaching Boys into Men, other boys and men related activities

10% Collaboration, outreach, reports, Text2Talk

10% Annual educational and prevention campaigns:

·      February: National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month; ETC event

·      April: National Sexual Assault Awareness Month; Still Not Asking for It

·      October: National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Speaker? Event?
