20 Reasons to Speak Out and Stop Domestic Violence Today: Support Prevention Education, Safe Shelter and Victim Services:


20. Your gift today will help save a life tomorrow by providing safety and shelter to victims and their children, stopping a bully, teaching teens about healthy dating relationships, and educating people about how to work together to stop domestic, dating and sexual violence.

19. You will affect change at every socio-economic level. Domestic and sexual violence cross every socio-economic boundary.

15. You will enable The Advocates to provide more than 30 free, essential services in English and Spanish, 24 hours a day, including a staffed shelter, crisis intervention, safety planning, support groups, and legal assistance.

14. You will help protect children. Blaine County has approximately 5,000 children under age 18. Statistically, 22% (nearly one-quarter) are likely to be living with domestic violence.

13. You will help stop the cycle of family violence - a public health issue that impacts the entire community. Children who grow up in a violent home learn that violence is "normal,” likely repeating the cycle in their own adult homes and in the community.

12. You will help teach respect versus violence, through knowledgeable and engaging elementary, middle school and high school classroom activities and discussions.

11. You will help prevent child abuse. Children are likely to be physically assaulted in 86% of homes with partner violence.

10. You will support positive outcomes: "I was given tools, resources, and a safe place to get away from an abusive situation.”

9. You will help increase community-wide awareness through activities and events.

8. You will give children a voice and a choice. A bully was removed from a school bus this fall due to The Advocates’ work. Another boy on the verge of bullying others told his mother, The Advocates bullying presentation "changed” his life.

7. You will help youth identify the signs of abuse and learn the elements of healthy relationships. 1 in 4 dating teens will be in an abusive relationship.

6. You will help a victim become a survivor - 1 in 4 women will be a victim of domestic violence.

5. You will be part of success - 70% of The Advocates’-sheltered women successfully transitioned to safe, abuse free living situations.

4. The Annual Fund needs you! This fund drive makes up 20% of The Advocates’ annual income and supports more than 30 essential services, and day-to-day operating expenses.
